A Film Interlude

So I just finished watching this really terrible thing called "This is Not a Movie." I would totally disagree with the title by pointing out that it does, in fact, meet all of the criteria of a movie, but I just don't care enough.

From the description on Netflix, I figured this would be some kind of psychological movie about what a man is going through in the hours before the end of the world, because that's pretty much what they said. But no, it's some film writer's version of public masturbation. Now I know that to some degree or other that's essentially what every creative act is, but not like this. This is basically someone doing that, only not trying to disguise it as anything, and then congratulating himself on how clever his lack of a disguise is.

Besides the incredibly undeserved sense of cleverness that infuses this movie, there is also the issue of the fact that the writer is just throwing his political and social opinions in your face. I actually agreed with some of the things he was saying, but the method in which he said it was so brazen and pompous that the point no longer mattered.

Overall, this was an infuriating experience to sit through. I know this isn't exactly a well-formulated review, but I just finished the film, and I had to vent a little. I have a feeling that this one will get a more put-together reaction once I have the time.
